By trimming away the non-essentials, Pawson’s style allows for architecture to breathe while encouraging people to engage directly with the volumes, light, and materials of a given space. His intentional emphasis on the look and feel of materials, and the value of negative space create a refreshing sense of calm in his constructions. Such is the case with Baron House, a holiday home located in Skåne, Sweden. By combining local materials and traditional architectural forms with full-height windows and an almost entirely white interior, Baron House is a modern re-interpretation of the Swedish farmhouse that is both minimalistic and inviting.

To make its dining area welcoming and warm, Pawson selected the iconic CH24 Wishbone Chair, designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949. “I have always admired Wegner,” says Pawson, who has incorporated Wegner’s designs into many interior design projects, “and, as a young man, I purchased several of his furniture pieces, including the Wishbone Chair.” Like Pawson’s own work, the CH24 epitomizes modernism’s emphasis on quality materials, clean lines, and craftsmanship. “Wegner’s ability to proportion his furniture,” continues Pawson, “and add details, texture, and a quality finish is unsurpassed.”
