Wegner's chairs are world famous, and it is with good reason that he is referred to as the Master of the Chair. In addition to the iconic Wegner Wishbone Chair, the Danish furniture designer is responsible for a wide range of lounge chairs and dining chairs.

Many consider the Danish furniture designer Hans J. Wegner to be one of the world’s foremost designers of chairs. With his unique sense of expression and willingness to refine the design, he created eminent chairs that have achieved wide international acclaim – among other things being exhibited at MoMA in New York. He designed probably his most famous chair, the CH24 Wishbone Chair, in 1949 for Carl Hansen & Søn, and the chair has been in uninterrupted production since 1950.

Wegner was driven by the vision of creating the ultimate chair. He was a skilled carpenter with a keen eye for detail and an unsurpassed sense of the sculptural possibilities of wood. His chairs helped to revolutionize Danish furniture design with their organic forms and minimalist expression which always went hand in hand with Wegner’s uncompromising demands for comfort and quality craftsmanship.

At the same time, Wegner was inspired by historic chairs which he transformed into simplified modern classics with the help of his investigative and creative approach to furniture design. When his CH25 lounge chair was launched in 1950, it caused a stir with its simple shape and bold paper cord on the seat. Later additions included the CH07 Shell Chair, and with padded lounge chairs such as the CH445 Wing Chair, the CH468 Oculus and the CH101 lounge chair, Wegner showed that he also mastered the fine craftsmanship of upholstery.
